Well-known Niagara Falls Shop Makes Cosmic “Ice” Cream Ale
There is a little shop in Niagara Falls called Italian Ice Cream that has been making handcrafted gelato for almost 40 years. As owner Andrew Vergalito puts it: “Our product is our name, our name is our product! In 1978, when we opened, not many people knew what gelato was and what the difference was, even today there is confusion.”
Gelato is creamier, smoother and silkier, as well as denser and more elastic and fluid than American ice cream. Meanwhile, Italian gelato includes only about 4 to 9 percent fat. Yet gelato also contains less air than American ice cream that helps keep it dense, fluid and creamy.
Italian Ice Cream crafts a large selection of milk and water base gelato as many as 24 are offered at once, including some adventurous new flavours like Cameron’s Cosmic “Ice” Cream Ale. Sounds deliciously refreshing!
