Meet Emily Hay – Sales Representative, Toronto East

As a new member of the sales team at Cameron’s, Emily brings valuable knowledge from her experience in the hospitality industry both while at university in Ottawa and as the general manager of a popular bar in the downtown Toronto core. When asked about her perspective on how to be a successful salesperson in a very competitive craft beer market, Emily is quick to point out that getting buy-in from the restaurant or bar staff is very important. “Consumers are more open to trying new things and they value a bartender or server’s opinion when it comes to a wine or beer selection and will often follow a recommendation. I used to list my favourites, 9 times out of 10 my customers trusted my advice and were blown away by the quality and flavour of craft beer.”

When asked about an important personality trait to build solid relationships with customers, Emily is categorical: “Being down to earth and genuine. People can see right through someone who isn’t real. Being personable and honest is the best way to start a positive relationship and succeed, no matter what the industry. What makes a much bigger difference to me at the end of a day’s work is being able to get past the pleasantries and build real relationships with our customers and beer lovers,” she says with a smile.

When she isn’t calling on her large customer base in Toronto East, Emily is a highly sociable person and thrives on being surrounded by her group of friends and sampling some of her favourite beverages. “I live by the lake and I enjoy going for walks and hitting up patios for a beer. I love summer BBQ’s, Jays games, karaoke (only when I’m singing), in fact, I sometimes get in trouble for hogging the microphone!”
